24 hours in Ipoh

bestfoodKL was in Ipoh for our #bestfoodKL x #Ipoh mini "project" on Instagram. If you've missed some of our photos on our Instagram feed, don't worry. It's all here.  24 hours is not enough to explore a city and our stomach is not big enough to fit in all the food (sorry guys!). So, the list below may not represent Ipoh at its best but it was indeed OUR journey and experience.

Who knows... we might return and explore other places as well.

#bestfoodKL x #Ipoh

breakfast at New Hollywood Kopitiam

This is Malaysia's multi-culturalism at its best. Locals - and perhaps some curious KL-ites - gather for some of Ipoh's offerings. Try the Char Kuey, Roti Bakar Telur Goyang and Caramel. For a more heavier meal - perfect for brunch/lunch - try their Nasi Lemak and Char Kuey Teow. Take your time and enjoy your food amidst one of Ipoh's neighbourhoods.

info: New Hollywood, 38, Jalan Lee Kwee Foh, Taman Canning, Ipoh Garden, Ipoh Town.

lunch at Ipoh Hainan Chicken Rice

The menu here is simple: Choose either Roasted Chicken or Steamed Chicken. Here's the catch: there are plenty of add-ons from Lemon Chicken (we're told this is a must-have), right until Tofu and Telur Goreng to go along your with your main rice dish. Best part about this experience is you get to enjoy your dish inside a colonial building. They've not done much renovation works, so we're loving this 'old school' feel.

info: Ipoh Hainan Chicken Rice, 107 Jalan Raja Musa Aziz, Ipoh. Tel: 05-525 45591

dinner at Thumbs Cafe

Just a few minutes drive away from the town area is Thumbs Cafe. The owners have cleverly preserved some kampung houses and turned it into a colourful eatery. Thumbs cafe serves an array of Western (we tried the Chicken Chop and it was d'lish!) and local cuisines. The dessert options may be rather limited, but we're saving our stomach for somewhere else.

coffee & dessert at Plan B

Where better to end our Ipoh experience than at Plan B. There's already various outlets in KL, so why bother visit, you might ask? Well, why not? Enjoy some coffee and cakes at this cozy cafe.  The spacious interior and sections dedicated to the late Yasmin Ahmad definitely makes this spot Instagram-worthy.
